Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival in Stockholm

Welcome to Stockholm, Sweden's elegant capital built across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea. For centuries, Stockholm has been the political, cultural and economic heart of Sweden, growing from a medieval trading settlement into one of Scandinavia's most vibrant cities.

Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy time at leisure to explore the city's waterfront promenades, stylish cafés and historic quarters.

Overnight: At Six or similar

Day 2 | Stockholm & the Story of the Vasa

Explore Stockholm on a private sightseeing tour through the city's most iconic districts, including Gamla Stan, Östermalm and Djurgården. Wander through narrow cobbled streets dating back to the Middle Ages and admire landmarks such as the Royal Palace, the Nobel Museum and Stortorget Square, where many chapters of Swedish history have unfolded.

The highlight of the day is a visit to the renowned Vasa Museum. The Vasa warship was commissioned by King Gustav II Adolf during Sweden's rise as a major European power. Intended to demonstrate the kingdom's military strength, the ship sank just minutes into its maiden voyage in 1628. After resting on the seabed for more than 300 years, it was recovered and painstakingly restored. Today, it stands as one of the world's best-preserved seventeenth-century ships and offers a remarkable insight into Sweden's Golden Age.

Overnight: At Six or similar

Day 3 | From the Capital to Swedish Lapland

Fly north from Stockholm into the vast landscapes of Swedish Lapland and arrive at the unique Treehotel. Hidden amongst pine forests near the Lule River, the hotel's contemporary architecture reflects Sweden's long-standing tradition of combining innovative design with a deep respect for nature.

Spend the evening surrounded by Arctic wilderness, where the silence of the forests and the clarity of the northern skies create a striking contrast to city life.

Overnight: Treehouse

Day 4 | Arctic Wildlife & Dining on a Frozen River

Venture into the forests of Swedish Lapland on a guided wildlife safari. This region is home to moose, reindeer, mountain hares and numerous bird species that have adapted to life in the far north. Learn how local communities have lived alongside these animals for generations, relying on the natural rhythms of the Arctic landscape.

After dark, enjoy an extraordinary dining experience on the frozen surface of the Lule River. Historically, rivers such as the Lule served as vital transportation routes and connected remote communities throughout northern Sweden. Gather inside a heated tipi for a three-course dinner while learning about Arctic traditions, local lifestyles and the significance of the river to the region's history. With favourable conditions, the evening may also be illuminated by the Northern Lights.

Overnight: Treehouse

Day 5 | Sámi Culture & the Northern Lights

Continue north to Kiruna with a stop at Silba Siida, an authentic cultural experience hosted by a Sámi family whose lives remain closely connected to reindeer herding. The Sámi are the Indigenous people of northern Scandinavia and have inhabited these lands for thousands of years. Their culture is deeply intertwined with nature, seasonal migrations and the care of reindeer.

Gather around the fire in a traditional lávvu and listen to joik, the distinctive Sámi tradition of storytelling through song. Learn about the eight Sámi seasons, a practical calendar developed around the annual cycle of reindeer herding, and enjoy traditional dishes prepared over an open fire using local ingredients.

In the evening, embark on a Northern Lights chase. Travelling away from artificial light, your guides use local knowledge and weather forecasts to maximise viewing opportunities. Along the way, hear stories about Arctic life and folklore before enjoying Swedish fika around a wilderness campfire beneath the northern sky.

Overnight: Elite Hotel Frost or similar

Day 6 | ICEHOTEL & Husky Sledding Traditions

Visit the famous ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, the world's first hotel built entirely of ice and snow. Created in 1989, the hotel has become an international symbol of Arctic creativity. Each winter, artists from across the globe transform blocks of ice harvested from the nearby Torne River into extraordinary suites, sculptures and artistic installations. No two editions of the hotel are ever the same.

Later, experience one of Lapland's most iconic activities on a husky sledding adventure. Before snowmobiles became common, sled dogs were among the most dependable forms of transport across the Arctic. Working together with an enthusiastic team of huskies offers an authentic glimpse into a way of life that has shaped northern communities for generations. After the safari, enjoy traditional Swedish fika around an open fire.

Overnight: Elite Hotel Frost or similar

Day 7 | Crossing into Finnish Lapland

Travel east into Finland, crossing an Arctic border that today feels largely symbolic. For centuries, the people of the far north have shared cultural traditions, livelihoods and trading routes that extend across modern national boundaries.

Arrive in Levi and set out on a private snowshoeing excursion through forests and open snowy landscapes. Snowshoes have long been an essential means of winter travel in northern regions, allowing people to move efficiently across deep snow. As you explore, your guide will introduce local wildlife, Arctic ecology and the realities of life above the Arctic Circle. A wilderness pause with warm drinks and freshly baked cinnamon buns completes the experience.

Overnight: Levin Iglut Golden Crown

Day 8 | Snowmobile Safari Through Lapland

Discover another side of Arctic life on a guided snowmobile safari through the winter landscapes of Finnish Lapland. Travel across frozen lakes, winding forest trails and scenic fells while learning about the region's natural environment and modern northern lifestyle.

The vast open spaces of Lapland remain among Europe's last great wilderness areas, where traditional livelihoods, outdoor culture and a close relationship with nature continue to play an important role in everyday life.

Overnight: Levin Iglut Golden Crown

Day 9 | Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Kittilä Airport for your onward journey.

From the royal history of Stockholm and the story of the Vasa to Sámi traditions, Arctic wildlife, husky sledding and the magical Northern Lights, this journey offers a rich introduction to the landscapes, cultures and history of the Nordic North.
