Itinerary

Day 1 | Welcome to Lapland

Arrive in Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland, located directly on the Arctic Circle. Nearly destroyed during the Second World War, the city was rebuilt to a visionary design by Finland's celebrated architect Alvar Aalto, whose influence can still be seen throughout the city today. This evening, travel into the snowy wilderness to visit the remarkable Arctic SnowHotel, an extraordinary structure recreated each winter entirely from snow and ice. Discover its beautifully carved snow suites, Ice Chapel and Ice Bar before returning to Rovaniemi. Far from the city lights, the surrounding Arctic landscape provides excellent opportunities to witness the Northern Lights dancing across the northern sky.

Overnight: Arctic Light Hotel or similar

Day 2 | Icebreaker Adventure and Northern Lights

Travel to the coastal town of Kemi on the Gulf of Bothnia for a memorable day aboard the legendary Icebreaker Sampo. Originally built in 1960 as a working icebreaker, the vessel played an important role in keeping Finland's northern ports open throughout the long Arctic winter. Explore areas normally hidden from passengers and enjoy the unique opportunity to step onto the frozen sea before floating among the ice floes in a specially designed thermal survival suit. The suit keeps you warm and buoyant, allowing you to drift effortlessly in the icy waters while surrounded by the vast frozen expanse of the Baltic Sea, an unforgettable Arctic experience enjoyed by only a fortunate few.
Back in Rovaniemi, join an evening Northern Lights excursion, heading into the Arctic wilderness with an expert guide to search for the magical aurora beneath Lapland's dark skies. For centuries, the Northern Lights have inspired stories and beliefs across the Arctic, including in Sámi culture, where they were regarded with great respect and mystery.

Day 3 | Journey to Kilpisjärvi

Today, travel north through Finland's remote Arctic landscapes towards Kilpisjärvi. Along the way, dense forests gradually give way to wide-open fell scenery as you enter one of the most spectacular regions of Finnish Lapland. Located in Finland's unique northwestern "arm," Kilpisjärvi lies in the heart of Sápmi, the traditional homeland of the Sámi people, whose culture, language and reindeer-herding traditions have shaped life in the region for centuries.
Upon arrival, settle into your glass igloo accommodation by a peaceful lake near a traditional Sámi reindeer ranch. Spend the evening surrounded by silence, with panoramic views of the Arctic sky above and reindeer often wandering nearby. The area is dominated by the iconic Saana Fell, a mountain that holds deep cultural significance in Sámi folklore and remains one of Finland's most recognizable natural landmarks.

Reindeer husbandry has been a cornerstone of Sámi culture for centuries, shaping both livelihoods and traditions across the far north.
Later, embark on a snowmobile adventure across frozen Lake Kilpisjärvi to the unique Three-Country Cairn, where Finland, Sweden and Norway meet. This remote border point has marked the meeting place of the three nations since the late 19th century and stands as a symbol of the region's shared Arctic heritage.
